Moreno/Rangel Program Dates Announced
The Mexican American Legislative Leadership Foundation (MALLF) is preparing to accept
applications for its 2009 Moreno/Rangel Legislative Leadership Program. The application will
be available on our website and mailed to colleges and universities across the State of Texas on
August 25, 2008. Applicants have more than 7 weeks to apply before the October 21, 2008
postmark deadline.
This competitive program accepts both undergraduate and graduate students, as well as, recent
graduates. Program participants work as full-time staffers in the Capitol offices of Members of
the Mexican American Legislative Caucus—Texas House of Representatives (MALC) during
the Regular Legislative Sessions. Interns and Fellows have the unique opportunity to learn the
intricate workings of state government through hands-on experience. The 2009-10 program
begins on January 8, 2009 through June 1, 2009.
All Moreno/Rangel Program participants receive a stipend to assist with the cost of living and
working full-time in Austin. As the program is very time-intensive, participants are not
permitted to hold jobs outside the program and must reside in Austin.
Our program is named after the longest-serving Hispanic member of the Texas House of
Representatives, Paul C. Moreno (El Paso), and the late Irma Rangel (Kingsville), who was the
first Mexican American woman to serve in the Texas Legislature.
We look forward to meeting the incoming Class of 2009-10!
